Among all the rumors and speculation that you must have heard about PS4, there are a few that have certain gamers concerned.
Ever since the PlayStation 4 has launched, more and more information is being released to the public. And not all of it is good news for every gamer out there; at least not those who have Bluetooth headsets. Confirmed by Sony themselves, the unfortunate fact is that Bluetooth headsets will not work with PS4.
So since Bluetooth headsets for PS4 won’t be an option for gamers, what are your options?
New support for PS4 headsets
With the new PS4 Firmware Update 1.60 (releasing Feb 4, 2014) comes the ability to use certain wireless headsets. The update will provide compatibility support for the PULSE Wireless Stereo Headset. This will include the GTA 5 limited edition version and also the original Wireless Stereo Headset.
Sony has also announced a brand new wireless headset for the PlayStation 4. The Gold Wireless Stereo Headset is going to be available in certain markets on February 10, 2014. The new headset for the PS4 will include:
- 7.1 virtual surround sound.
- Noise-cancelling internal microphone for chatting.
- A USB wireless adaptor so you can use the headset with PS4, PS3, PC or Mac.
- 8 hour rechargeable battery life.
- A 3.5mm stereo mini jack you can use to work with PS Vita and other mobile devices.

PS4 compatible headset Turtle Beach Ear Force PX4
As of right now, one of the only headset options available to PlayStation 4 owners is to purchase the Turtle Beach Ear Force PX4. It is one of the only PS4 compatible headsets right out of the box.
- Good battery life
- It works with PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Mac, and mobile devices
- It’s comfortable for most head sizes
- Not completely wireless though
Our advice, follow this link to amazon and read the reviews to find out if this headset will fit your needs. Unfortunately, you’re not given many options with the PS4 when it comes to headsets but the Turtle Beach Ear Force PX4 is at least a good choice for your PlayStation 4 gaming needs.
Bluetooth headsets for PS4 not happening?
Well unfortunately your options have become a bit limited. The disappointment doesn’t end with no current option for Bluetooth headsets for PS4. It is not just the Bluetooth headset owners who will have trouble with the console launch; the USB-enabled headsets will also be non-useable on PS4 at the time of its release. For previous-gen gamers who have a habit of using USB headsets for chat function, this is going to be really disappointing.
An update to the console design made later after the launch may provide functionality to USB headsets though. This update will also add compatibility for Sony’s PULSE headset to PS4. While the company promises to make these updates though, no specific time period has been given. It might be a long wait before you get to use your headsets on PS4.
The only types of headsets that will work are the ones that connect via a PS4 optical connector. So, does that mean you will have to get more headsets now? The good part is that a mono headset is provided with the gaming console that can be used. So even if you only have a Bluetooth or USB headset, you won’t have to worry about buying a new pair for your gaming console.
Set to launch in November in the US and Europe, PlayStation4 is truly going to be a remarkable console, even if it doesn’t allow you to use Bluetooth headsets. The console has more than enough features to make up for this small inability and you will certainly be up for a unique gaming experience when you get your PS4.
